Place your Shakti Mat on a bed or other soft surface. A neck pillow or a rolled-up towel should be placed underneath your Shakti Mat to support your neck. Lie in a comfortable position so that your skin rests in contact with the points. Relax and breathe deeply. If your skin is very sensitive, you may want to start out with a thin cloth between yourself and the mat. This will, however, lessen the effect of the treatment. Initially, 10-15 minutes on the mat may be enough, but you can gradually increase your sessions to 20-40 minutes. It is not harmful to spend more time on the mat or even to fall asleep on the mat. Use it whenever you have time and feel the urge - preferably every day, if possible!
Rest or only moderate activity is recommended after each session, so as not to disrupt the flow of the released energy.
You can use your Shakti Mat to reenergize and refresh yourself any time, even during a short break at work! You will soon find that you may feel less stressed and more efficient at carrying out your tasks.
As with any therapy or exercise, regularity is the key to success! We recommend daily use of the Shakti Mat for optimum results.
With regular use, deep, chronic tension and stress can be released and you can experience a long-lasting sense of ease and well-being.
If needed, the Shakti Mat can be hand-washed in lukewarm water and hung to dry. Please do not use washing machines or dryers, as the plastic spikes can be damaged.
The Shakti Mat can be used basically over the entire body. From the spine, nerves radiate out and reach all parts of the body, which means that a back treatment can affect the entire body. Suggestions for use on specific "problem" areas of the body are shown
below. We have modeled the suggestions using a thin cotton cloth so as to not to offend.
Knee and thighs: Affects the tractus ilotibialis muscle located on the outside of the thigh.
Stomach: Careful! Please observe that this can be a very intense and powerful position. You should be accustomed to doing the back treatment first.
Feet: This position works on the reflexology zones which will in turn have an overall effect on the entire body. Using the Shakti Mat on the soles of the feet enhances stability.
Jaw: Symptoms associated with jaw-clenching and teeth-grinding can be alleviated and your whole face can appear more radiant. Use a very thin cotton cloth between your skin and the Shakti Mat if your facial skin is very sensitive. Do not use a towel, as it will be too thick
Neck: Place a neck pillow or rolled-up towel under your Shakti Mat so that it gives adequate support to the back of your neck and all the way to the base of the skull. This position is very good for relieving tension in the shoulders and, in particular, for relaxing the trapezoid muscles that run all the way up to the base of the neck.
