We introduced The Shakti Mat to the UK Market on 1 October 2008 and are the leading (approved) Shakti Mat Retailer in the UK.

Shakti Lifestyle (formerly Shakti Mat UK) is run by Rose-Marie Sorokin, an international Yoga & Pilates teacher and her partner Tim Axon, a nutrition consultant and specialist in living foods. They are the founders of Inner Light Yoga & Health Co, www.innerlightyoga.co.uk, a UK based company offering Yoga and Pilates classes, events and holidays (in Spain, Turkey, Morocco and Sweden), www.yogapilatesholidays.com. Rose-Marie has also developed her own specialist method of Back Care and Stress Release; The Sorokin Method, www.sorokinmethod.com. (under construction)

Rose-Marie says,

The man behind the mat

How did it begin?

With a past as a performance artist at the circus (acrobat and juggler)
and massage therapist and Reiki healer I was once travelling and found
the most beautiful and harmonious place in the Himalayas. After a long
time spent in the Himalayas practicing mysticism, yoga and meditation
I found that nothing is complete until all fellow human beings can
experience living in deep happiness. During the past few years
I have exclusively been focusing on different yoga practices
and meditations.
I wandered down from the mountain and created a bed of nails
with the help of the ancient Indian knowledge, Vedic science which
was recorded 5-7000 years ago.

The bed of nails was named Shakti which means energy, power,
creativity and compassion, which I hope it will give you all.
